Pyre is the original, tactical action RPG developed by the independent American studio Supergiant Games.
The action of Pyre was set in the mysterious land of Downside, which is a kind of Christian purgatory and a penal colony at the same time. During play, you play the hero (or heroine) called Reader, rescued from death by three masked travelers. As the protagonist as one of the few possessed the forbidden art of reading, our saviors ask for help in exploring the Book of Rites dedicated to mysterious competition, in which victory means forgiveness of wines and the possibility of leaving Downside.
The game is characterized by an extremely original mechanics, which is a combination of elements of classic RPG, visual novel adventure, MOBA production, and even a sports game. The game itself is divided into two main parts. While playing, we travel by car along the map, we manage our team, we conduct numerous conversations and make various decisions affecting both the fate of our comrades and opponents. Along the way, we meet a mass of unique heroes, gradually discovering the next fragments of the plot and learning the motivations of individual Exiles. This part of the game was made in the form of static cutscenes reminiscent of visual novel productions.
The task of the heroes is to take over the magic sphere and deliver it to the other side of the arena, to the burning pile of the opponent – in which of course rivals with the same goal try to prevent us; when we hit the ball with it a sufficient number of times, the pile goes out and our team wins. Although the general assumptions are simple, Pyre offers a number of mechanics and dependencies influencing the course of the match. We can put up three heroes for the clash, and each of them has slightly different coefficients and special abilities (which can be further modified thanks to the acquired objects and subsequent levels of experience) – some can fly, others move underground, still others can stun rivals.back to menu ↑
