Sid Meier’s Civilization 5 traditionally brings significant changes, both in the setting of audiovisual production and its substantive content. A lot of changes have occurred in the interface itself, which can now be described as transparent, minimalist and user-friendly. Not all options and functions are available immediately on the screen, but even those hidden can be accessed with one click of the mouse. Notifications are now in the form of icons, so you do not have to wade through a long list of text messages. All these changes, however, only serve to facilitate control. There is no question of any simplification of the gameplay mechanisms themselves.
For the first time in the history of the series, a hexagonal net was introduced on the world map. Thanks to this solution, players gain additional tactical possibilities during warfare. The new way of presenting the universe also allows for much more intuitive exploration of the territory and development of the player’s power.
In line with the new graphic design of the production, the martial system underwent considerable changes. Only one unit of a given type can be present in a given field (ie one military, civil, air and special unit, each marked with the appropriate flag, so that we will not get lost). It coincides with the strengthening of the importance of the area. Attack or defense modifiers obtained from rivers, mountains, hills, etc. will now be more important than in the previous parts of the cycle. Another change is the introduction of the possibility of firing the enemy’s position from behind the front line.
Advocates of resolving conflicts by peaceful means should also not complain. Sid Meier’s Civilization V introduces very extensive diplomatic relations between rival powers. The game will also include free cities, ie neutral factions limited to only one metropolis. They do not compete with the player and do not strive for expansion, instead they are something like the roleplaying games known from independent players. Additionally, an internal browser was built into the game, thanks to which we will be able to participate in the community of fans, as well as search, evaluate and install modifications from within the game itself.
